Five Pillars Yoga

Jeff Brown

Where are you from?

How did you come to Yoga? How and when did your yoga practice begin?
I started practicing yoga many years ago when I was in college. But I got away from it and then returned in the late 1990s because I felt a need for healing on many levels.

Who inspires you?
My mentor Yogeswari and Thich Nhat Hanh.

How would you describe your teaching style?
I try to cultivate a mindful, alignment-based approach to the yoga practice, and at the same time have some fun.

Which posture helps you Go Deep?
Supported Reclined Goddess Pose.

Silence or music in class?
When I teach Restorative I play mellow music with no lyrics. I find the music helps cultivate relaxation. When I teach Fundamentals, I don’t play music except in Savasana.

Personal motto or mantra?
Be Here Now

Current favorite inspirational quote?
What is it you plan to do with this one wild and precious life?

Complete the sentence: I practice because…
No matter what’s going on, the practice allows me to connect to a sense of wholeness-physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Favorite sutra?
Sutra III.1 desa-bandhas-cittasya-dharana
Concentration is when the mind rests on a fixed object, state or point.
