Five Pillars Yoga

Kiley Holliday

Where are you from?
Los Angeles, California

How did you come to Yoga? How and when did your yoga practice begin?
My parents brought me to my first yoga class at the age of 17.  It was a kundalini class held at a strip mall in North Hollywood.  I wasn’t ready for so much white.  At 22, I had a casual flirtation with a Rodney Yee DVD for about a year.  At 24, I started Bikram yoga and I’ve been practicing yoga daily since then.

Who inspires you?
Malala Yousafzai, Ezra Klein, Tiffany Cruikshank, Joan Didion, and Misty Copeland

How would you describe your teaching style?
My classes emphasize precise physical alignment while aiming to safely increase the students’ strength and flexibility within the framework of an innovative vinyasa sequence.

Silence or music during the class?
Music.  I favor an eclectic mix of genres, ranging from Trip-Hop to classical to Reggae Dub.  I’ve also been known to throw down a killer classic rock playlist from time to time.

Yes- an owl.

Which posture helps you “Go Deep?”
Handstand Lotus and King Cobra both help me to #GoDeep.
